Gucci birthday present

What good timing!

My older daughter has a birthday coming up in the near future and she is hard to buy for being there is a generation difference between us and I don’t understand her preference in music much less why she has a fit over certain clothing brands. I understand Coco Chanel but Jimmy Choo? I understand Prada but Kate Spade? Since I know that she will never read anything on this site since I shop at Goodwill, I can tell you what I found her for her birthday. I have a pattern of shopping in most of the Goodwill stores and it is usually in a clockwise rotation. The first area of interest are the glass cabinets up front and there it was, a Gucci look-alike purse, or was it the real thing? The price marked was $49.99 so with this being half-off day the price to me would be $24.99, tax free. I quickly looked it up and found one very similar to it on the Gucci website new for $1,200.

Gucci purse for birthday
This is very similar to the one I found, only the trim is beige and there is only one strap.

I stood at the cabinet for a moment until someone asked me if I needed something and all I had to do was smile, point and shake my head yes when she asked if it was the purse I was interested in. Sure enough, it had the logo inside, a number and looked top quality with the name on the metal hooks and embossed fabric inside and out. The handle was coming apart in a few places but a little super glue in the right places could make it look brand new, well, almost. I had been bidding on a few Gucci, Prada and Chanel purses on for the upcoming date and knew the prices people were paying for this bag with some in the hundreds of dollars and a few hitting the gavel at several hundred dollars. The price of $24.99 was a good gamble at this point. Can’t wait to see her expression when she opens the wrapping paper but also plan to carry some ear plugs just in case!

It turned out to be a great day in several ways for myself as well. At the two Goodwills I hit today, I found a BOSS Hugo Boss Stratus overcoat, like new, for $4.99, Hugo Boss dress coat, a pair of Hugo Boss pants, Ermenegildo Zegna Z Soft jacket, Canali formal coat, navy Burberry’s double breasted coat, a ladies Bloomingdale’s jacket, two Armani Collezioni shirts, an Armani Exchange shirt, two pair of ecco shoes, Steve Madden shoes, brand new Stacey Adams shoes, a number of items from the two Tommys (Hilfiger & Bahama that is) plus a few more with everything in my size. Almost found a pink Prada purse earlier for my daughter at $20 but it proved to be a possible fake when some of the women in the checkout line wanted to see it. The logo was crooked on the outside and there was nothing inside to indicate it was the real thing. They were very convincing so it went back into the glass cabinet as I walked out of the store.

Wish me luck with the super glue that I don’t stick to my work.

Not all four-letter words are bad.

Try it some time. It worked today.

For a little more than a total of $40, I dressed for work wearing a Valentino dress jacket ($21.01/1,242.00), a very expensive Versace black shirt (10.38/650.00), a matching Yves Saint Laurent tie (1.00/98.00), a pair of charcoal colored Armani MANI trousers made to fit (5.24/395.00) and a pair of black Steven Madden Kinndle loafers (5.24/79.99). Yesterday was a very busy and rough day so I needed to “own” this day. What is the extra set of numbers you may ask?  I find links to retail prices either the same as what I bought or very close to the item if new. This gives me some idea of what kind of value that certain item will have at today’s prices. My price in total was $42.87 tax free and the retail price I came up with this outfit is at the extreme end totaling $2,464.99. I paid 1/57th that amount. Wouldn’t that make you feel like you owned the day? It’s good to pretend some times for sanity’s sake don’t you agree?   🙂

Happy birthday to my sister!
